Ingredients for Hot Spiced Tea

  • 8 cups water
  • 6-8 black tea bags
  • Cinnamon Sticks
  • Cloves
  • 1 cup sugar
  • Orange Juice
  • Lemon Juice

How to Make Hot Spiced Tea

  1. In a large pot (at least 6 quarts), combine 8 cups of water, 1 cup of sugar, 4 cinnamon sticks, 2 teaspoons ground cloves, 1 teaspoon ground ginger, 1 teaspoon ground allspice, and 6-8 black tea bags (depending on desired strength).
  2. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over high heat.
  3. Remove from heat and let steep for 15 minutes, allowing the spices to infuse the tea.
  4. Remove the tea bags and spice sticks using a fine-mesh sieve or strainer.
  5. Stir in 1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice and 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice.
  6. Serve hot. For optimal flavor, serve immediately. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days and reheated as needed.
  7. Enjoy! This recipe makes approximately one gallon.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
