Ingredients for Baked Black Bean Veggie Burgers

  • 1 (15-ounce) can black beans, drained and rinsed
  • Green Bell Pepper
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  • Garlic Cloves
  • 1 large egg
  • Chili Powder
  • Cumin
  • Hot Sauce
  • Breadcrumbs

How to Make Baked Black Bean Veggie Burgers

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Thoroughly drain and rinse one (15-ounce) can of black beans. Pat them dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
  3. In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a fork until a thick, pasty consistency is achieved.
  4. Finely chop 1/2 cup of bell pepper (any color), 1/4 cup of red onion, and 2 cloves of garlic. Gently stir these into the mashed black beans.
  5. In a separate small bowl, whisk together 1 large egg, 1 teaspoon chili powder, 1/2 teaspoon cumin, 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika, and 2 tablespoons of your favorite chili sauce.
  6. Pour the egg mixture into the bean mixture and stir to combine thoroughly.
  7. Gradually add 1 cup of breadcrumbs, mixing until the mixture becomes sticky and holds its shape well. You may need slightly more or less depending on the moisture content of your beans.
  8. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties about 1/2 inch thick.
  9. Lightly grease a baking sheet with cooking spray or olive oil.
  10. Place the patties on the prepared baking sheet.
  11. Bake for 15-20 minutes per side, or until heated through and slightly browned, flipping halfway through.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
