How to Make Hamburger Rice Casserole
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, brown 1 lb ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
- Add 1/4 cup butter to the skillet. Melt butter completely.
- Stir in 1 cup uncooked long-grain rice, 8 oz sliced mushrooms, and 1/4 cup brown sugar. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Pour 3 1/2 cups of boiling water into the skillet. Stir to combine.
- Transfer the hamburger and rice mixture to a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Cover the dish with foil.
- Bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes, or until the rice is cooked through and the liquid has been absorbed.
- Let stand for 5-10 minutes before serving.
