Ingredients for Apple Chicken

  • Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts
  • Dried Thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable Oil
  • 2 medium Golden Delicious apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup apple cider
  • Cider Vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

How to Make Apple Chicken

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Season chicken breasts generously with thyme, salt, and pepper.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Brown chicken breasts on all sides for about 2-3 minutes per side.
  4. Remove chicken from skillet and set aside.
  5. Add remaining 1 tablespoon of oil to the skillet. Add sliced onions and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  6. Add sliced apples to the skillet and cook until slightly softened and lightly golden, about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Pour in apple cider, bring to a simmer, scraping up any brown bits from the bottom of the pan.
  8. Return chicken breasts to the skillet.
  9. Cover the skillet and transfer to the preheated oven. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through and no longer pink inside.
  10. Remove skillet from oven. In a small bowl, whisk together apple cider vinegar and cornstarch until smooth.
  11. Pour the cornstarch mixture into the skillet and cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce has thickened and become glossy (about 1 minute).
  12. Transfer the chicken and apples to a serving platter and spoon the sauce over the top.
  13. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
