Ingredients for Applesauce Oatmeal Bread

  • Apple Cider
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) melted unsalted butter
  • Bread Flour
  • Quick Cooking Oats
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Apple Pie Spice
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast

How to Make Applesauce Oatmeal Bread

  1. Heat 1 cup apple cider in the microwave to 110-120°F.
  2. In your bread machine pan, combine the warmed cider, 1/4 cup packed brown sugar, and 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast.
  3. Let the yeast sit for 10 minutes until foamy and bubbly.
  4. Add 1 cup unsweetened applesauce, 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) melted unsalted butter, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, and 1 cup rolled oats to the bread machine pan.
  5. Add 3 cups all-purpose flour to the pan. (Add more flour, 1/2 cup at a time, if needed to form a cohesive dough.)
  6. Set your bread machine to the dough cycle. Once the cycle is complete, remove the dough.
  7. Gently shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a greased 9x5 inch loaf pan. Turn to coat.
  8. Cover the loaf pan with plastic wrap and a clean kitchen towel. Let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  9. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  10. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before removing and transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
