Ingredients for Baked Bluefish
- Bluefish
- Lemon Wedges
- Prepared Mayonnaise
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
How to Make Baked Bluefish
- Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C). Rinse two 6-ounce bluefish fillets under cold water and pat completely dry with paper towels. Trim away any dark or discolored areas.
- Place the fillets skin-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Generously spread 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise evenly over the top of each fillet.
- Season with 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, and the juice of 1/2 a lemon. (A squeeze of lemon is acceptable but measuring ensures consistent results).
- Place the baking sheet in the upper third of the preheated oven and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the fish is bubbly, opaque, and lightly browned on top. Cooking time will depend on the thickness of your fillets.
- Remove from oven and let rest for 2-3 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
