How to Make Hamburger Bean Soup
- Brown 1 lb ground beef, 4 slices bacon (chopped), and 1 medium onion (chopped) in a large skillet over medium-high heat, breaking up the beef into small crumbles. Cook until the beef is browned and the onion is softened (about 8-10 minutes).
- Drain off any excess grease from the skillet.
- Transfer the meat mixture to a 6-quart slow cooker.
- Add 2 (15-ounce) cans of kidney beans (drained and rinsed), 2 (15-ounce) cans of pinto beans (drained and rinsed), 4 cups beef broth, 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes (undrained), 1 teaspoon dried oregano, 1 teaspoon dried basil, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper.
- Stir all ingredients together until well combined.
- Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or on high for 3-4 hours, or until the beans are tender.
- Before serving, taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Garnish with fresh parsley or a dollop of sour cream if desired.
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
