Ingredients for Hamburger Buddy

  • Fresh parsley (optional)
  • 90% Lean Ground Beef
  • All Purpose Flour
  • ½ cup water
  • White Mushrooms
  • Reduced Fat Sour Cream
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Fresh Ground Pepper
  • 1 medium onion
  • Elbow Macaroni
  • Salt And Pepper
  • Garlic Cloves
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • Reduced Sodium Beef Broth
  • Dried Thyme

How to Make Hamburger Buddy

  1. Finely chop 1 large garlic clove using a food processor fitted with the steel blade attachment.
  2. Add 1 cup of shredded carrots and 1 cup sliced mushrooms to the food processor. Process until finely chopped.
  3. Add 1 medium onion and pulse until roughly chopped. Set aside.
  4. In a large oven-safe skillet or Dutch oven, brown 1 lb ground beef over medium-high heat, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until no longer pink (3-5 minutes).
  5. Stir in the chopped vegetables, 1 teaspoon dried thyme, 1 teaspoon salt, and ½ teaspoon black pepper. Cook, stirring often, until vegetables soften and mushrooms release their juices (5-7 minutes).
  6. Add 1 ½ cups beef broth, 1 cup elbow macaroni, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, and ½ cup water to the skillet.
  7. Bring to a boil.
  8. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is tender (8-10 minutes).
  9. In a small bowl, whisk together ¼ cup beef broth and 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour until smooth.
  10. Stir the flour mixture into the hamburger mixture.
  11. Stir in ½ cup sour cream.
  12. Simmer, stirring often, until the sauce has thickened (about 2 minutes).
  13. Serve immediately, sprinkled with fresh parsley (optional).

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
