How to Make Almond Florentines
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking sheet.
- Arrange graham crackers in a single layer to cover the baking sheet.
- In a medium saucepan, melt 1/2 cup (1 stick) of unsalted butter over medium heat.
- Add 1 cup packed light brown sugar and cook for 5 minutes, stirring constantly, until the mixture is smooth and melted. Do not boil.
- Evenly spoon the butter-sugar mixture over the graham crackers.
- Sprinkle generously with 1 cup slivered almonds.
- Bake for 7 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
- Turn off the oven and leave the florentines in the oven with the door slightly ajar to cool for 1 hour.
- Carefully remove from the baking sheet while still slightly warm and cut into squares. They will harden as they cool.
