How to Make Barbecued Turkey Drumsticks
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Arrange turkey drumsticks in a large casserole dish.
- Season drumsticks generously with salt and pepper. Add 1/2 cup of water to the bottom of the dish.
- Cover the casserole dish tightly with a lid or aluminum foil.
- Bake for 2 to 2 1/2 hours, or until the turkey is almost cooked through.
- Increase oven temperature to 425°F (220°C).
- While the oven heats, melt 1/4 cup of butter in a separate baking pan.
- Remove the turkey drumsticks from the casserole dish and place them in the baking pan with the melted butter.
- Turn the drumsticks to coat them evenly with the butter.
- Bake uncovered for 15 minutes, basting occasionally.
- Reduce oven temperature back to 350°F (175°C).
- In a small bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup ketchup, 1/4 cup packed brown sugar, 1 teaspoon dry mustard, and 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg.
- Pour the barbecue sauce over the turkey drumsticks.
- Bake uncovered for another 15 minutes, or until the sauce is bubbly and the drumsticks are cooked through and nicely browned.
