Ingredients for Chocolate Anise Cookies Biscotti

  • All Purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • Unsalted Butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • Ground Aniseed
  • Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips

How to Make Chocolate Anise Cookies Biscotti

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together 3 cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together 1 cup (2 sticks) softened unsalted butter and 1 cup granulated sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in 2 large eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients (flour mixture) to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  6. Stir in 1 tablespoon ground anise seed and 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips.
  7. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and shape it into a 16-inch long, 3-inch wide log.
  8. Transfer the log to the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the log is lightly golden brown.
  10. Remove from oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 30 minutes.
  11. Transfer the cooled log to a cutting board.
  12. Using a serrated knife, carefully slice the log diagonally into 1/2- to 3/4-inch thick slices.
  13. Arrange the biscotti slices cut-side down on the baking sheet.
  14. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until pale golden brown.
  15. Transfer the biscotti to a wire rack to cool completely before serving. Enjoy!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
