How to Make Christmas Rum Balls Or Bourbon Balls
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Sift together 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder and 1 cup granulated sugar.
- In a separate bowl, combine 1/2 cup spiced rum (or bourbon) with 1/4 cup corn syrup.
- Add the rum/bourbon mixture to the cocoa and sugar mixture. Stir well to combine.
- Add 1 1/2 cups crushed vanilla wafers (or chocolate cookies) and 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans, or a mix).
- Mix thoroughly until well combined. The mixture will be moist.
- Using a teaspoon or two, roll the mixture into 1-inch balls.
- Roll the balls in the remaining 1/4 cup granulated sugar (optional).
- Place the rum balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are slightly firm. Do not overbake.
- Let cool completely on a wire rack.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer for up to 3 weeks. They are divine ice cold!
