How to Make D I Y Rice Milk
- Rinse 1 cup of uncooked white rice thoroughly under cold water.
- Combine the rinsed rice, 4 cups of water, 1 vanilla bean (or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract), and a pinch of salt in a medium saucepan.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 45-60 minutes, or until the rice is very soft and mushy.
- Remove from heat and let the mixture cool completely. If using a vanilla bean, carefully remove it and scrape the seeds into the rice mixture.
- Once cooled, transfer the rice mixture to a high-speed blender.
- Blend until completely smooth and creamy. This may take a few minutes.
- Line a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth over a large bowl. Pour the blended rice milk through the sieve, pressing gently to extract as much liquid as possible.
- Your homemade rice milk is ready! Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
