Ingredients for Healthy Whole Wheat Dinner Rolls

  • Low Fat Plain Yogurt
  • Skim Milk
  • Soft Margarine
  • Egg Substitute
  • 1 cup bread flour (or all-purpose)
  • 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • Active Dry Yeast

How to Make Healthy Whole Wheat Dinner Rolls

  1. In a small microwave-safe bowl, combine 1/2 cup milk, 1/4 cup plain yogurt, 2 tablespoons honey, and 4 tablespoons margarine. Microwave for 1 minute, or until warm and the margarine is melted.
  2. Stir until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  3. Add the wet ingredients, along with the remaining dry ingredients (see ingredients list), to your bread machine. Select the dough cycle.
  4. Once the dough cycle is complete, gently turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface.
  5. Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and shape each into a smooth roll.
  6. Place the rolls in a lightly greased 12-cup muffin tin (this helps maintain shape) or on a lightly greased baking sheet.
  7. Cover the rolls loosely with a damp kitchen towel and let rise in a warm place (such as on the stovetop with the oven preheating) for 30-45 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  8. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly in the pan before serving. Enjoy warm!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
