How to Make Hearty Fiesta Burgers
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, combine 1 ½ cups breadcrumbs, 2 large eggs, ½ cup finely chopped onion, ¼ cup ketchup, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon salt, and ½ teaspoon black pepper.
- Add 2 pounds ground beef and gently mix with your hands until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Shape the meat mixture into 6 patties, about ¾ inch thick.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the patties for 3-4 minutes per side.
- Pour 1 (15 ounce) can of your favorite tomato soup over the patties.
- Top each patty with ½ cup of your favorite canned beans (drained and rinsed) and ½ cup of chopped green bell pepper (or jalapeños, for extra spice!).
- Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake, covered, for 10 minutes.
- Sprinkle 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese over the burgers.
- Continue baking, covered, for 5 more minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
