Ingredients for Joy S Lasagna

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • Garlic Cloves
  • Sweet Italian Sausage
  • 28 ounces crushed tomatoes
  • Marinara Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • Basil Leaves
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • Pepper
  • Lasagna Noodle
  • Whole Milk Ricotta Cheese
  • Parmesan Cheese
  • Extra Large Egg
  • Mozzarella Cheese

How to Make Joy S Lasagna

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Position oven rack in the middle.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium-low heat. Add chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
  4. Add Italian sausage, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Cook for 10-15 minutes, or until fully cooked and no longer pink.
  5. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 20 minutes.
  6. While the sauce simmers, prepare the cheese filling: In a large bowl, combine ricotta cheese, 1 cup of Parmesan cheese, beaten egg, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper.
  7. Soak lasagna noodles in hot tap water according to package directions.
  8. Spread one-third of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  9. Layer half of the cooked lasagna noodles over the sauce.
  10. Top with half of the mozzarella slices, half of the ricotta mixture, and another third of the meat sauce.
  11. Repeat layers: noodles, mozzarella, ricotta mixture, and remaining meat sauce.
  12. Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of Parmesan cheese over the top.
  13. Bake uncovered for 35 minutes, or until the sauce is bubbling and the cheese is golden brown. Let stand for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
