How to Make Polish Delights

  1. Brown 1 lb ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Drain excess grease.
  2. Brown 1 lb Polish sausage (kielbasa recommended), sliced into 1/2-inch thick rounds, in a separate skillet. Drain excess grease.
  3. In a large pot, combine the browned beef, sausage, 1 (15 ounce) can sauerkraut (drained), 1 (15 ounce) can sauerkraut juice, 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, 1/2 cup finely chopped onion, 1 teaspoon caraway seeds, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Stir until cheese is melted and thoroughly combined.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place approximately 1 teaspoon of the meat mixture onto each slice of bread. (Use approximately 24 slices of bread)
  5. Place the assembled appetizers on baking sheets lined with parchment paper and freeze for 10 minutes, or until set. (Freezing helps prevent the appetizers from falling apart during baking).
  6. Once set, remove from baking sheets and place in freezer-safe bags for long-term storage.
  7. To bake, remove desired number of appetizers from the freezer. Arrange them on a baking sheet.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10-15 minutes, or until heated through and bubbly.
