- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners.
- Prepare the cake mix according to package directions, using the specified amounts of eggs, milk, and oil.
- Set aside 1/2 of the prepared cake batter.
- Place one regular-sized Oreo cookie in the bottom of each cupcake liner.
- Roughly chop 1/2 of the remaining Oreo cookies. Gently fold the chopped Oreos into the reserved cake batter.
- Fill each cupcake liner about halfway with the plain batter. Top with the Oreo-studded batter, filling almost to the top of the liners.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- While cupcakes are baking, prepare the frosting. In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter and cream cheese until smooth and creamy.
- Add vanilla extract. Gradually add powdered sugar, beating until light and fluffy.
- Finely chop the remaining Oreo cookies. Stir the finely chopped Oreos into the frosting.
- Once cupcakes have completely cooled, frost generously with the Oreo frosting.
- Decorate with mini Oreos on top.
