How to Make Bourbon Cranberry Sauce

  1. In a small saucepan, combine 1/4 cup bourbon, 2 finely chopped shallots, and 1 teaspoon orange zest.
  2. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  3. Reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the bourbon reduces to a syrupy glaze on the bottom of the pan (about 10 minutes).
  4. Add 12 ounces fresh cranberries and 1/2 cup granulated sugar. Stir well until the sugar dissolves.
  5. Reduce heat slightly and simmer uncovered until most of the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened (about 10 minutes).
  6. Remove from heat and stir in 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper.
  7. Transfer to a bowl, let cool to room temperature, cover, and refrigerate. Enjoy!
