How to Make Easy Popcorn Balls

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine 1 cup granulated sugar, ½ cup light corn syrup, ¼ cup margarine, and ¼ teaspoon salt.
  2. Bring the mixture to a soft boil, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves and the mixture reaches 240°F (115°C) on a candy thermometer (firm-ball stage).
  3. Remove from heat and immediately stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (or almond extract).
  4. In a large bowl, gently combine the hot sugar mixture with 6 cups popped popcorn. Be careful, the mixture will be very hot!
  5. Lightly grease your hands with butter or cooking spray. When the mixture is cool enough to handle but still warm and pliable, quickly form into 1-inch to 2-inch balls.
  6. Place popcorn balls on wax paper to cool completely.
