How to Make Valentine's Day Krispie Treat Hearts

  1. Lightly grease an 11x15 inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. In a large saucepan or Dutch oven, melt butter over low heat.
  3. Add marshmallows and stir constantly until completely melted and smooth.
  4. Remove from heat. Stir in almond extract and red food coloring until evenly distributed.
  5. Add Rice Krispies cereal and stir gently until well combined.
  6. Lightly grease a piece of waxed paper with cooking spray and place it in the baking dish, sprayed side down.
  7. Pour the Rice Krispies mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  8. Top with another piece of lightly greased waxed paper. Using your hands, firmly press the mixture into the pan to create an even layer, ensuring it reaches slightly below the top edge.
  9. Let the mixture cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes to set.
  10. Carefully peel off the top sheet of waxed paper.
  11. Place another sheet of waxed paper on top of the Krispie treat layer and flip the entire pan over onto a clean surface (counter, cutting board, etc.).
  12. Gently remove the baking dish.
  13. Lightly grease your heart-shaped cookie cutter with cooking spray.
  14. Cut out 6-7 heart shapes using the cookie cutter.
  15. Place each heart-shaped treat in a non-zippered gallon-size baggie, gently squeeze out excess air, and tie with ribbons.
  16. Add handmade name tags or other decorations (optional).
