  1. Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C). Grease and flour two 9x5 inch loaf pans, or 8 mini loaf pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine 1 cup chopped dates, 1 cup chopped walnuts, and 1 cup mixed candied fruit (cherries, etc.). Toss with 1/4 cup all-purpose flour.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg, and 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves.
  4. In a large bowl, cream together 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter and 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  5. Beat in 4 large eggs one at a time.
  6. Stir in 1 tablespoon orange zest, 1/4 cup orange juice, 1 teaspoon orange extract, and 1 (20 ounce) can crushed pineapple, VERY well drained.
  7. Mash 3 ripe bananas with a fork until smooth.
  8. Gradually add the dry ingredients (step 3) to the wet ingredients (step 6), alternating with the mashed bananas, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  9. Stir in the floured fruit and nut mixture (step 2).
  10. Pour batter into prepared pans.
  11. Bake for 160 minutes (2 hours and 40 minutes) for standard loaf pans, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. Reduce baking time for mini loaves to approximately 45-55 minutes. Loosely tent with foil if the tops brown too quickly.
  12. Cool in pans for 20 minutes before inverting onto wire racks to cool completely.
