Comment préparer Watermelon Cake

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour the bottoms of two 8- or 9-inch round baking pans.
  2. Prepare your favorite chocolate cake batter according to package directions. Once batter is ready, gently fold in ½ cup (60g) of chocolate chips.
  3. In a separate bowl, dissolve 1 packet (3 oz) of strawberry or cherry-flavored drink mix into 1 cup of water. Add the dissolved drink mix to the chocolate cake batter and mix well.
  4. Pour batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  5. Bake for 27-32 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes.
  7. Invert cakes onto wire racks to cool completely (about 1 hour).
  8. While cakes cool, prepare the frosting. In a medium bowl, beat 1 cup (2 sticks) of your favorite vanilla frosting until smooth. Add 10-12 drops of green food coloring and mix until desired color is reached.
  9. In a separate bowl, add 10-12 drops of red food coloring to the remaining frosting and mix until desired color is reached.
  10. Once cakes are completely cool, slice each cake layer horizontally to create four cake halves.
  11. Frost the uncut sides of the cake halves with the green frosting.
  12. Press green jelly beans into the green frosting to create a watermelon rind effect.
  13. Frost the top of the assembled cake with the red frosting.
  14. Press the remaining 2 tablespoons (15g) of chocolate chips into the red frosting to mimic watermelon seeds.
  15. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving. Cut into wedges and enjoy!
