Ingredients for Amaretto

  • 1 cup water
  • White Sugar
  • Brown Sugar
  • 1 cup vodka
  • Almond Extract
  • Vanilla Extract

How to Make Amaretto

  1. Combine 1 cup of water and 2 cups of granulated sugar in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly until all the sugar is completely dissolved.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and simmer gently for approximately 120 minutes, or until the syrup has thickened considerably and coats the back of a spoon. Stir occasionally to prevent scorching.
  4. Remove the pan from the heat and let the syrup cool completely for at least 10 minutes.
  5. Stir in 1 cup of vodka, 1 teaspoon of almond extract, and ½ teaspoon of bitter almond extract. Mix well to combine.
  6. Carefully pour the mixture into a sterilized bottle or jar, seal tightly, and let it sit for at least 2 weeks to allow the flavors to meld before serving. (Optional: Let it age longer for a smoother flavor.)

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
