How to Make Caipirinha Original Or With Fruit

  1. Cut two limes into wedges and place them in an old-fashioned glass or a heavy tumbler.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar (adjust to taste). Using a muddler or the back of a spoon, gently muddle the limes and sugar until the limes release their juices and the sugar is mostly dissolved.
  3. Add 2 ounces of cachaça.
  4. Fill the glass with ice cubes.
  5. Stir well to combine.
  6. (Optional) For a super-chilled Caipirinha, combine all ingredients (except ice) in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake vigorously until well-chilled. Then strain into your glass filled with ice.
  7. (Optional) If using fruit, add your chosen fruit to the glass during step 2 and muddle gently along with the lime and sugar, or add it to the shaker in step 6.
  8. Garnish with a lime wedge and serve immediately.
