  1. Open 2 dozen clams, reserving the best 2 dozen shells. Discard any clams that don't open during cooking.
  2. Spread a 1/2 inch layer of rock salt in the bottom of a 9-inch pie pan. Securely push the reserved clam shells into the salt to prevent them from tipping.
  3. Fry 4 slices of bacon until crisp, about 8-10 minutes. Remove bacon from pan and place on paper towels to drain. Press out excess grease.
