How to Make Vanilla Hearts

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Sift 250g all-purpose flour into a large bowl.
  3. Cut 125g unsalted butter, chilled and cubed, into the flour.
  4. Using your fingertips, work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Add 75g granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Knead gently until a dough forms. Do not overmix.
  6. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 5mm thickness. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out cookies.
  7. Place the hearts onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown.
  9. Let the cookies cool completely on a wire rack before storing in an airtight container.
