  7. Stir in the black beans, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt.
  8. Bring the chili to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
  9. Remove the lid and continue to simmer for another hour, stirring occasionally, until the beef is tender and the chili is dark, rich, and slightly thickened.
  10. Stir in the cooked bacon.
  11. Taste and adjust seasoning with additional salt if needed.
  12. Serve hot, topped with your favorite condiments and a squeeze of lime.
