- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Line a 13 x 9 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides to lift the brownies out later. Set aside.
- In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter.
- Remove from heat and add 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate. Stir until completely melted and smooth.
- Let the melted chocolate mixture cool slightly. (If it's too hot, it could scramble the eggs).
- Add 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar and 1/2 cup (100g) packed brown sugar. Mix well until combined.
- Add 2 large eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/2 cup (60g) chopped walnuts (optional), and 1/2 cup (85g) chocolate chips.
- Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix.
