Cómo preparar Mom's Mulled Cider For The Crock Pot

  1. Set a medium or large crock-pot to high heat.
  2. Pour 6 cups of apple cider into the crock-pot, leaving enough space for the apple and orange to float.
  3. Set aside extra cider for later replenishing.
  4. Wash and dry the orange and apple thoroughly.
  5. Stud the orange and apple with 20 cloves total (distribute evenly).
  6. Place the clove-studded fruit into the crock-pot.
  7. Add 3 cinnamon sticks and 2 tablespoons of brown sugar (adjust to your sweetness preference).
  8. Using a vegetable peeler, remove two long strips of lemon zest from one lemon, avoiding the white pith.
  9. Add the lemon zest to the crock-pot. Reserve the remaining lemon for other uses.
  10. Slice the remaining lemon into 4-5 thin slices and add them to the crock-pot. Reserve remaining slices.
  11. Cover the crock-pot and bring the mixture to a near boil on high.
  12. Once almost boiling, reduce heat to low. Add 1/4 teaspoon each of ground nutmeg, allspice, and cinnamon (or your preferred spices and quantities).
  13. Continue to cook on low for at least 1 hour before serving.
  14. Keep the crock-pot on low. Guests can ladle out servings as desired.
  15. Replenish with the reserved cider as the crock-pot empties. (Do not add more spices unless less than 1/4 of the original cider remains).
  16. When replenishing, simply pour in the cider and continue heating on low. No need to return to a boil.
  17. Discard the last 1/4 of the heavily spiced cider at the end.
