How to Make Bean Burgers

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a food processor, chop 1 cup of sunflower seeds until finely ground.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the ground sunflower seeds with 1 (15-ounce) can of kidney beans (drained and rinsed), 1/2 cup cooked brown rice, 1/4 cup chopped onion, 2 cloves minced garlic, 1 tablespoon olive oil, 1 teaspoon chili powder, 1/2 teaspoon cumin, 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika, salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Gently mix all ingredients until well combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Form the mixture into 4-6 patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
  6. Place the patties on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, then remove from the oven.
  8. Let the patties cool slightly until you can gently handle them.
  9. Carefully flip the patties and bake for an additional 15 minutes on the other side, or until heated through and slightly browned.
  10. Serve on your favorite buns with your preferred toppings. Enjoy!
