How to Make Jalapenos Bread Butter Style

  1. Thinly slice 1 pound of jalapenos and 1 medium onion. Wear rubber gloves!
  2. Pack jalapeno and onion slices tightly into clean, sterilized pint jars, leaving 1/4 inch headspace.
  3. In a large saucepan, combine 2 cups white vinegar, 2 cups water, 1 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons salt, 1 tablespoon yellow mustard seeds, 1 teaspoon celery seeds, and 1/2 teaspoon turmeric.
  4. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over medium-high heat, stirring until sugar and salt are completely dissolved.
  5. Carefully pour the boiling mixture over the jalapenos and onions in the jars, leaving 1/4 inch headspace.
  6. If needed, add boiling water to reach the 1/4 inch headspace.
  7. Remove any air bubbles by running a clean knife or chopstick around the inside of the jars.
  8. Wipe the jar rims clean and firmly adjust the lids.
  9. Process jars in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes.
  10. Turn off heat and let jars sit in the water bath for 5 minutes.
  11. Carefully remove jars and let them cool completely. You should hear a 'pop' sound as the jars seal.
