How to Make Jan S Special Cranberry Sauce

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup granulated sugar and ½ cup water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
  2. Add 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger to the boiling sugar syrup.
  3. Peel and dice 1 ripe pear (about 1 cup). Add to the saucepan and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Add 12 ounces fresh or frozen cranberries to the saucepan. Reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer until most of the cranberries have burst, about 8-10 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  5. Continue to simmer for another 5-10 minutes, or until you reach your desired consistency.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in 2 tablespoons of Amaretto (or to taste).
  7. Allow the cranberry sauce to cool completely before chilling for at least 2 hours to allow flavors to meld. Serve chilled and enjoy!
