How to Make Spiced Chai Tea

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine 4 cups of water, 2 teaspoons cardamom pods (lightly crushed), 1-inch piece of ginger (peeled and thinly sliced), 4 whole cloves, 1/2 teaspoon black peppercorns, and 1 cinnamon stick.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat.
  3. Immediately reduce heat to low and simmer gently for 5 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and add 4-6 tea bags (black tea or chai tea bags recommended).
  5. Cover the pot and let steep for 5-10 minutes, or to your desired strength.
  6. Strain the chai tea into a teapot or individual mugs using a fine-mesh sieve.
  7. Sweeten to taste with your favorite sweetener (maple syrup, agave, or sugar) and add your choice of plant-based milk (almond, soy, oat, etc.)
  8. Serve hot or chilled. Enjoy!
