How to Make Vanilla Cranberry Sauce

  1. Combine 12 ounces fresh cranberries, 1 cup sugar (or vanilla sugar for extra vanilla flavor), ½ cup water, and 1 vanilla bean (split lengthwise) in a medium saucepan.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.
  3. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries begin to burst.
  4. Remove the vanilla bean from the saucepan. Using the tip of a knife, carefully scrape the seeds from the inside of the bean and add them back to the sauce.
  5. Return the spent vanilla bean to the sauce. Continue to simmer and stir occasionally for another 5 minutes, or until the cranberries have softened and the sauce has thickened slightly.
  6. Remove the vanilla bean before serving. Allow the sauce to cool completely before serving or refrigerating. Enjoy!
  7. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld (optional).
