Ingredients for Amazing Cranberry Sauce
- Fresh Cranberries
- Crushed Pineapple
- Mandarin Orange Segments
- Pecans
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Clove
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
How to Make Amazing Cranberry Sauce
- Drain the juice from one can of pineapple and mandarin orange segments. Reserve the fruit segments.
- Measure 1 cup of the canned fruit juice. (You will not use water.)
- In a medium saucepan, combine the 1 cup of fruit juice and 1 cup of granulated sugar. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- Add 12 ounces of fresh cranberries to the saucepan and bring the mixture back to a boil.
- Reduce heat to medium-low. Add 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon cloves, 1/4 teaspoon ginger, and 1/8 teaspoon allspice.
- Continue to simmer until all the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened (about 10-12 minutes). Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Remove from heat and let the cranberry sauce cool to room temperature.
- Gently fold in the reserved pineapple and mandarin orange segments.
- Refrigerate the cranberry sauce until thoroughly chilled (at least 2 hours).
- Before serving, sprinkle with 1/4 cup of chopped pecans.
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
