- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the softened cream cheese, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gradually add the flour, beating until just mixed. Do not overmix.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until firm.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to 1/8 inch thickness.
- Use a 2-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the cookies. Lightly flour the cutter to prevent sticking.
- Place the cutouts about 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheets.
- Bake for 7-10 minutes, or until the edges are very lightly browned.
- Immediately transfer the cookies to wire racks to cool completely.
