  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • Golden Raisin
  • Tart Apple
  • 1 medium onion, chopped

How to Make Baked Beans

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Drain one (15-ounce) can of pork and beans and one (15-ounce) can of white beans into a large, oven-safe bowl.
  3. Add 1 medium onion, chopped; 1 medium apple (such as Honeycrisp or Fuji), cored and chopped; 1/2 cup barbecue sauce; 2 tablespoons brown sugar; 1/4 cup raisins; and 1 teaspoon mustard to the beans.
  4. Gently stir to combine all ingredients.
  5. Lay 4-6 slices of bacon evenly over the top of the bean mixture.
  6. Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until the bacon is crispy and the apples are tender.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
