Ingredients for Banana Souffles
- Butter Flavored Cooking Spray
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 3 ripe bananas, mashed
- Fresh Lime Juice
- 1 large egg yolk
- 3 large egg whites
- Pinch of salt
How to Make Banana Souffles
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Generously spray four 1-cup ramekins with cooking spray.
- Add 1/2 tablespoon of granulated sugar to each ramekin. Rotate the ramekin to evenly coat the sides with sugar. Tap out any excess sugar into a small bowl.
- In a food processor, combine mashed bananas, lime juice, egg yolk, and 2 tablespoons of sugar. Process until completely smooth and creamy.
- Pour the banana mixture into a large bowl.
- In a clean, grease-free stainless steel or glass bowl, beat egg whites with a pinch of salt using a whisk or electric mixer until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add the remaining 1 tablespoon of sugar and continue beating until stiff, glossy peaks form.
- Gently fold one-fourth of the beaten egg whites into the banana mixture to lighten it.
- Using a rubber spatula, gently fold in the remaining egg whites in two additions, being careful not to deflate the mixture.
- Divide the soufflé batter evenly among the prepared ramekins. Tap the ramekins lightly on the countertop to remove any air bubbles.
- Place the ramekins on a baking sheet to catch any spills.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the soufflés are golden brown and puffed up.
- Serve the Banana Soufflés immediately. Enjoy!
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
