How to Make Chocolate Caramel Picnic Brownies

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour a 13x9 inch baking pan.
  3. Unwrap 1 bag (40 pieces) of Rolos candies and set aside.
  4. In a large bowl, combine one 15.25 oz box of chocolate fudge cake mix, 1/2 cup (1 stick) melted unsalted butter, 1/3 cup milk, and 2 large eggs.
  5. Stir with a wooden spoon until well blended. The batter will be thick.
  6. Press half of the brownie batter evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  7. Bake for 6 minutes in the preheated oven.
  8. Remove from oven and evenly sprinkle 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips and 1/2 cup toffee bits over the top.
  9. Arrange the Rolos candies on top, pressing gently into the batter. Arrange 5 across and 7 down.
  10. Do not press all the way to the bottom; leave some space between the candies and the bottom of the batter.
  11. Spread the remaining brownie batter evenly over the Rolos and toppings.
  12. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with only a few moist crumbs attached.
  13. Let cool completely in the pan before cutting into 35 squares.
