How to Make Chocolate Truffle Crumb Bars

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Spray the bottom only of a 13 x 9 inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.
  3. In a large bowl, combine 1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix, 1/2 cup (113g) melted unsalted butter, and 1 large egg.
  4. Mix on medium speed for 1-2 minutes, or until crumbly.
  5. Set aside 1 cup of the crumb mixture.
  6. Press the remaining crumb mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes.
  8. In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips and 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk.
  9. Warm over low heat, stirring constantly, until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth.
  10. Remove from heat and stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
  11. Spread the chocolate mixture evenly over the hot crust.
  12. Stir 1/2 cup chopped walnuts and the reserved 1 cup of chocolate chips into the reserved crumb mixture.
  13. Sprinkle the crumb mixture evenly over the chocolate filling.
  14. Bake for 25-28 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and firm to the touch.
  15. Let the bars cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before cutting into bars.
