How to Make Dirt Cake

  1. In a large bowl, beat together 8 ounces of softened cream cheese, 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, and 1/4 cup of softened margarine until smooth and creamy.
  2. Gently fold in 8 ounces of whipped topping.
  3. Set aside.
  4. In a separate bowl, prepare your instant chocolate pudding according to package directions using the pudding mix, milk and vanilla extract. (Usually 2 cups of milk and 1 tsp vanilla)
  5. Add the prepared chocolate pudding to the cream cheese mixture and gently combine.
  6. In a 9x13 inch baking dish, layer half of the chocolate cookie crumbs (about 2 cups crushed Oreo cookies).
  7. Spread half of the pudding mixture evenly over the crumbs.
  8. Repeat layers with remaining crumbs and pudding mixture.
  9. Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld and the cake to set.
