How to Make Double Chocolate Scones

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C). Lightly grease a large baking sheet.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups all-purpose flour, ½ cup granulated sugar, 2 teaspoons baking powder, and ½ teaspoon salt.
  3. Cut in 1 cup (2 sticks) cold unsalted butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 large egg and ½ cup milk.
  5. Add the wet ingredients and ½ cup mini chocolate chips to the dry ingredients. Gently mix until just combined.
  6. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat into an 8-inch circle.
  7. Place the dough onto the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Dust the top of the dough lightly with flour.
  9. Using a sharp knife, score the dough into 8 wedges, cutting about ¾ of the way through.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  11. Let the scones cool slightly on the baking sheet.
  12. While the scones are baking, melt the remaining ½ cup mini chocolate chips and ½ cup white chocolate chips in separate microwave-safe bowls in 30 second intervals, stirring until smooth.
  13. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the cooled scones.
  14. Let stand for 15 minutes to allow the chocolate to set.
  15. Cut the scones along the scored lines and serve.
