How to Make Fantastic Brownies

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine 14 oz caramel candies and 1/2 cup (4 oz) sweetened condensed milk.
  2. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until caramels are completely melted and the mixture is smooth and creamy. (About 5-7 minutes)
  3. Remove from heat and set aside; keep warm.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine 15.25 oz box chocolate fudge cake mix, 1/2 cup (4 oz) sweetened condensed milk, and 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened.
  5. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2-3 minutes, until well combined and smooth.
  6. Stir in 1 cup pecan halves.
  7. Stir until evenly distributed.
  8. Press 3 cups of the brownie batter into the bottom of a greased 13x9 inch baking pan.
  9. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10 minutes.
  10. Remove the partially baked brownie from the oven.
  11. Drizzle the warm caramel mixture evenly over the top of the partially baked brownie.
  12. Sprinkle 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate morsels over the caramel layer.
  13. Crumble the remaining brownie batter evenly over the caramel and chocolate.
  14. Bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
  15. Let cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before cutting and serving.
