How to Make Homemade Pizza
- Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C) and move oven rack to the lowest position.
- In a large mixing bowl, dissolve 2 ¼ teaspoons of active dry yeast and 1 teaspoon of sugar in 1 cup (240ml) of warm water (105-115°F).
- Let stand for 10 minutes until foamy.
- Stir in 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 3 cups (375g) of all-purpose flour, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 30-45 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide it in half.
- Lightly flour a clean surface and shape each half into a 12-inch circle. Alternatively, you can press the dough into two greased 9-inch round pizza pans or cookie sheets.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the crust begins to turn golden brown.
- Remove from oven and sprinkle ½ cup (60g) of shredded mozzarella cheese over each crust.
- Top with your favorite amount of pizza sauce, parmesan cheese, more mozzarella cheese, and your favorite toppings.
- Bake for another 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and the pizza is lightly browned.
