How to Make Popcorn Owls
- Preheat oven to 200°F (93°C). Place popped popcorn in a large bowl and keep warm in the oven.
- In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine sugar, water, corn syrup, and salt.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until a candy thermometer reads 250°F (121°C).
- Remove from heat and immediately stir in butter and vinegar until butter is melted.
- Pour the hot mixture over the warm popcorn in the bowl.
- Toss gently to coat the popcorn evenly.
- Once the mixture is cool enough to handle (but still slightly sticky), dip your hands in cold water to prevent sticking. Quickly shape the popcorn mixture into five 3 1/4-inch balls and five 4-inch balls.
- Flatten the bottom of each popcorn ball slightly for better stability.
- Place a small ball on top of a large ball to form the owl's head and body.
- Use marshmallow creme to attach assorted candies for decoration.
- Attach candy corn for claws.
- Press orange slices onto the sides for wings.
- Flatten and cut additional orange slices to create triangle-shaped ears and a 3/4-inch circular nose.
- Press M&Ms into the orange circles to complete the eyes.
- Add a 3-inch licorice strip above the eyes for eyebrows.
- Let the owls cool completely before serving. Enjoy!
