How to Make Scream Cheese Swirl Brownies

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease the bottom of a 13x9 inch baking pan with shortening or cooking spray.
  3. In a small bowl, beat the cream cheese filling ingredients (see below) with an electric mixer on low speed until smooth. Set aside.
  4. In a large bowl, prepare the brownie mix according to package directions.
  5. Spread ¾ of the brownie batter evenly into the prepared pan.
  6. Spoon the cream cheese filling by tablespoonfuls evenly over the brownie batter.
  7. Spoon the remaining brownie batter over the filling.
  8. For a marbled effect, use a knife to swirl the batter and filling together in wide curves. Rotate the pan and repeat.
  9. Bake for 26-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
  10. Cool completely at room temperature for about 1 hour.
  11. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to chill.
  12. Cut into 24 brownies (6 rows x 4 rows) using a plastic knife.
  13. Store covered in the refrigerator.
  14. High Altitude Baking: Follow high-altitude brownie mix directions, adding ¼ cup (30g) of all-purpose flour to the dry mix. Bake for 32-36 minutes.
