How to Make Sinigang

  2. Add 4 cloves of minced garlic and 1 chopped medium onion. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Add 2 sliced medium tomatoes and cook for another 2 minutes.
  4. Pour in 2 tablespoons of fish sauce (patis). Stir well.
  5. Add 1 pound of your chosen protein (pork, shrimp, fish, or chicken), cut into bite-sized pieces. Brown the meat on all sides.
  6. Add 6 cups of water to the pot.
  7. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil.
  8. Reduce the heat to medium-low, partially cover, and simmer for 40 minutes, or until the meat is tender.
  9. Add 1-2 packets of Sinigang seasoning mix (adjust to taste). Stir well and continue to simmer for 5 minutes.
  10. Add 1 cup of chopped spinach or bok choy. Simmer for another 5 minutes, or until the vegetables are wilted.
  11. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed, adding more fish sauce (patis) for extra saltiness or sourness.
  12. Serve hot with steamed rice and extra fish sauce (patis), if desired.
  13. Enjoy your delicious homemade Sinigang!
