How to Make Surprise Bars
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Crush 1 ½ cups Ritz crackers into small pieces, not crumbs.
- Add 1 cup Skor bits (or 1 cup sliced almonds) and mix well.
- Pour in 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk and mix thoroughly until combined.
- Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides to lift out the finished bars.
- Pat the cracker mixture evenly into the prepared pan.
- Bake for 15 minutes.
- Remove from oven and sprinkle ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips over the base.
- Return to the oven for 2 minutes, or until chocolate chips are softened.
- Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
- Spread 1 cup melted semi-sweet chocolate evenly over the top. (You can melt the chocolate in a double boiler or microwave).
- Sprinkle with any remaining sliced almonds (optional).
- Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the bars to set completely before cutting into squares.
