How to Make Taiyaki
- Whisk together 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 cup water, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 cup sugar until smooth.
- Gently fold in 1 teaspoon baking powder.
- Lightly grease your Taiyaki pan and heat it over medium heat. Avoid high heat initially.
- Pour about 1/4 cup of batter into each fish-shaped cavity, filling it halfway.
- Add 1-2 tablespoons of your chosen filling (red bean paste, custard, chocolate, etc.) on top of the batter.
- Top with another 1/4 cup of batter, filling the cavity almost to the top.
- Carefully close the Taiyaki pan and cook for 1-2 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy. Adjust cooking time based on your stove and pan.
- Gently open the pan and carefully remove the Taiyaki. Let it cool slightly before serving.
- Enjoy your homemade Taiyaki! Serve warm with a dusting of powdered sugar or a scoop of ice cream.
